Soapberries – Soapnuts – Reetha – Aritha
Soapberries or Soapnuts (also known as Reetha, Aritha, doda, kanma, thali) are named so because the fruit pulp is used to make soap.
In India, the dried fruit is crushed into a powder and used as a natural hair and body cleanser without any harsh chemical additives or sulfates. For its cleansing properties, it is also used to make great face and body exfoliant. It is claimed to be helpful in removing dandruff from hair. Apart from its benefits to bodily hygiene, it is used to clean jewellery and washing woollen clothes. Soapberries finds place in many Ayurvedic preparations and herbal shampoos.
